With the post-baccalaureate orientation period approaching, choosing a field of study is a major challenge for young people. Marcella Julie Rajaonarison, Director of the CIDST in Tsimbazaza, discusses the realities of the labor market.
Regarding the current job market, she highlights the prevalence of the informal sector and the mismatch between academic qualifications and professional needs. Key sectors with strong recruitment potential in Madagascar include digital technology and ICT (including BPO and call centers), textiles, tourism, hospitality, and agribusiness.
To make an informed choice, students are encouraged to conduct self-assessments and seek guidance from professional counselors at the Ministry of Technical Education and Vocational Training, the SESAME project, or the CIDST. Upcoming student fairs will be held in Antananarivo (August 27-29 at Lycée J.-J. Rabearivelo), Toamasina (August 28-29), and Toliara (September 17-19).
Addressing the dilemma between passion and market demand, Rajaonarison advises against extreme choices. She emphasizes that the most successful individuals are those who find an intersection between their interests and market needs, while avoiding the pitfalls of social pressure.
