POSTAL SERVICES – The postal network faces digital transformation

Digital transformation is redefining the missions of the postal network. On the occasion of World Post Day, celebrated on October 9, the Minister in charge of Posts, Mahefa Andriamampiadana, recalled the importance of this network in exchanges and socio-economic development. Beyond the distribution of letters and parcels, postal services now contribute to commercial activities, particularly e-commerce, and facilitate access to various services for individuals, businesses, and public institutions. This shift requires the sector to evolve its services according to the new needs of users.

This year, the celebration revolves around the theme “A single postal network, infinite possibilities,” which highlights the scale of this infrastructure on an international level. According to the Minister, the global postal network brings together more than 660,000 offices and 4.6 million workers. Its operation relies on cooperation between postal operators and the progressive integration of digital technologies.

Beyond commercial exchanges, the postal network helps bring services closer to populations, particularly in rural areas and among vulnerable communities. It can also facilitate access to financial and health services. Its role in supporting small businesses and women entrepreneurs is among the issues mentioned by the Minister.

However, changes in communication methods and technological advances force the sector to rethink its services. The modernization of services and the strengthening of cooperation between operators thus appear essential to preserve the relevance of the postal network in a context marked by the rise of digital exchanges.

The Minister also paid tribute to the commitment and professionalism of the sector’s workers, while insisting on the need to continue adaptation efforts. The goal is to keep the postal network at the heart of exchanges while meeting the growing expectations of users.
