SHIPWRECK – Ukrainian sailor reported missing

A Ukrainian sailor, who went missing on July 5th aboard the bulk carrier M/V Aetos, remains unfound. His family is calling on the residents of northern Madagascar to remain vigilant.

The 28-year-old sailor, Yehor Zadorozhniy, served as a second deck officer on the merchant vessel. He was last seen leaving the bridge in the early afternoon to exercise on deck. According to reports, he was wearing sportswear and carrying his work phone. Hours later, only a resistance band was found, leaving the circumstances of his disappearance a mystery.

The vessel was en route from Brazil to Oman when the incident was reported. While initial searches focused on the Aldabra and Assumption islands, authorities are now considering the possibility that he may have drifted toward the Malagasy coast.

The Seamen’s Club Ukraine has joined the family in calling for urgent international assistance, including aerial reconnaissance and an independent investigation, as the family finds the circumstances of the disappearance suspicious.
