The Khoja Shia Ithna-Asheri community of Madagascar is in mourning. Badouraly Mamodaly Djaffar, born in 1940, passed away on Monday in Antananarivo at the age of 86. As the founder of the Shalimar restaurant, which opened in 1977, he was a prominent figure in the community. He notably served as president of Tana Jamat twice, from 1978 to 1982 and again from 1983 to 1987.
Badouraly Mamodaly Djaffar was particularly known for his community commitment. He dedicated several years to serving the Jamat community of Morondava before continuing his work in Antananarivo. Within Tana Jamat, he held the position of secretary-general before assuming the presidency.
“His journey will be remembered for his service, availability, and deep attachment to our community,” wrote Khoja TV / Khoja Radio in a tribute to the deceased. “His contribution to the life of our Jamats, both in Morondava and Tana, will remain in our memories and in the history of our community,” they added.
For Tana Jamat, his passing marks the loss of a true pillar of the community. Through the Shalimar restaurant, opened in 1977, his name will also remain associated with the history of the restaurant industry in Antananarivo.
