Tourism took center stage during the meeting between the President of the Refoundation, Colonel Randrianirina Michaël, and representatives of the vital forces of Sainte-Marie. Arriving on the island on Thursday evening, the President discussed with local actors the ways to revitalize tourism activity.
The resumption of air links to Mauritius and Reunion Island is one of the primary demands. Interrupted after the Covid-19 pandemic, these flights facilitated exchanges between Sainte-Marie and other Indian Ocean destinations. Their restoration could encourage the arrival of tourists and support the activities of hotels, restaurants, travel agencies, and other operators. “The resumption of these links will be studied, just as it was done for the restoration of flights connecting Madagascar to the Comoros,” the President stated.
Professionals also desire a simpler regulatory framework. Certain complex procedures can slow down investments and hinder the realization of new tourism projects.
Finally, the improvement of infrastructure is another major challenge. Beaches, biodiversity, nature, and cultural heritage represent significant assets for the island. The Tsôlabe Festival, scheduled to begin this Friday, is also expected to contribute to promoting Sainte-Marie and strengthening its appeal to visitors.
