An ultimatum has been issued. The Ministry of Transport and Meteorology has given regional and national transport operators serving the southern axis, currently based at Fasan’ny Karàna, a 15-day deadline to permanently relocate to the Amoronakona bus station. Upon expiration of this period, sanctions will be imposed on those who fail to comply. The ministry stated that after 15 days, only permits issued by the Amoronakona station will be considered valid.
Operators continuing activities from other sites without the required permit will be deemed illegal and subject to penalties. However, this measure only applies to transporters using the shared Fasan’ny Karàna station; cooperatives with their own private stations are exempt. The ministry explained that the relocation is necessary because the owner of the Fasan’ny Karàna land intends to reclaim the property.
Some transporters, who previously resisted the move when the station opened two months ago, continue to contest the decision. They cite passenger reluctance—particularly from residents of the Atsimondrano district—to travel to Amoronakona, and allege that the relocation is driven by private interests.
To facilitate the transition, the Ministry of Transport and Meteorology, supported by the Land Transport Agency (ATT), plans to introduce new transport lines to serve Amoronakona and increase the frequency of urban train services. Since its opening on June 23, the Amoronakona bus station has seen very low occupancy and few taxi-brousse departures.
