In Soavimasoandro, a 24-year-old woman, the only daughter of her parents, died after being struck by a 4×4 vehicle. Her father was also injured.
The fatal accident occurred on Thursday evening around 7 p.m. on the Tsarasaotra-Ivato bypass, near Atsimompefiloha in Soavimasoandro. A father and his 24-year-old daughter were hit by a white 4×4 while crossing a pedestrian crossing located on a speed bump. The young woman died instantly, while her father was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.
The father had just left a wake and was picking up his daughter, as he did every evening after work. An uncle of the victim expressed the family’s devastation, stating that the driver fled the scene immediately after the collision.
Local residents reported that the vehicle was speeding from the direction of Ivato. Surveillance cameras in the immediate vicinity failed to clearly capture the license plate, though residents hope footage from the Tsarasaotra roundabout might provide clues.
The family, mourning the loss of their only daughter, expressed deep grief, noting that this is not the first tragedy to occur on this road. They are calling for the construction of a pedestrian bridge and better security measures. Yesterday morning, residents protested by blocking traffic and burning tires to demand safer crossing conditions, leading police to use tear gas to disperse the crowd.
