The ‘True Metal Never Dies’ concert will bring together three generations of Malagasy metal bands at the Résidence Fisaina, all united by a single goal: to celebrate the power and continuity of extreme metal.
Malagasy metal is set to write a new chapter in its history. This Sunday, the Résidence Fisaina will host ‘True Metal Never Dies’, an event bringing together three iconic bands from different generations on one stage: Martz, Egraygore, and Haunting. This exceptional gathering will highlight the evolution of extreme metal in Madagascar, from the pioneers to the new figures of the underground scene.
According to the organizers, “This is the first time that bands from different generations have met on the same stage.” They also emphasize that “it will be a lineup entirely dedicated to extreme metal.” The three bands will perform “Orgasmatron” together, an iconic song and album by the British heavy metal band Motörhead, released in August 1986. “Great surprises also await the public,” they announced.
As a historical figure of Malagasy heavy metal, Martz represents the pioneering generation. Founded in 1990, the band operates in a death/thrash metal universe characterized by powerful riffs, intense rhythms, and themes inspired by spiritual warfare, hidden dimensions, and the fall of humanity. With over 35 years of career, Martz has released two albums, ‘Impossible But True’ and ‘Sokiophoby’, and is currently preparing a third opus titled ‘Adrenaline’. Despite numerous member changes over the years, the band has maintained its musical identity and remains an essential reference in the national metal scene.
Alongside them, Egraygore will embody the intermediate generation. Formed in Antananarivo in the 1990s before being formalized in the early 2000s, the band has established itself as one of the main references of Malagasy death/thrash metal. Known for its technical arrangements and committed or spiritual lyrics, Egraygore occupies an important place in the history of extreme metal in the country.
The next generation will be represented by Haunting, the youngest band on the bill. Originating from the Antananarivo underground scene, this symphonic death metal band stands out for its fusion of symphonic melodies and extreme vocals, led by a female vocalist who embodies the new generation of the Malagasy metal scene. Emerging from the ‘Rock And Metal Atsimondrano’ community, created in 2016 to promote new rock and metal talent, Haunting symbolizes the renewal of a constantly evolving scene.
By bringing these three bands together, ‘True Metal Never Dies’ aims to demonstrate that Malagasy metal transcends generations without losing its strength or identity. Between heritage, transmission, and renewal, the event promises an immersion into the heart of the most extreme sounds of the local scene.
