From October 29 to November 1, the Nosy Jazz Festival, organized by the Nosy Jazz Festival Organization Committee (NJFOC) in partnership with Yas Madagascar, will bring together Malagasy and international artists in Ampefy.
Artists from Madagascar, Europe, the United States, and the Indian Ocean region will gather in Ampefy for the event. The lineup includes the Bandy Baraka Big Band, a large Malagasy ensemble of over twenty musicians; Jozéfinn’ Austral View (J.A.V.), a group featuring artists from Madagascar, France, and South Africa; and the Arthur Possing 5tet featuring Joël Rabesolo, showcasing young Luxembourgish pianist and composer Arthur Possing alongside Malagasy guitarist Joël Rabesolo. Paris-based American saxophonist Sulaïman Hakim will also participate.
The Malagasy scene will be represented by Groove in Four featuring Solo Andrianasolo, a group focused on groove and improvisation; the Michel Ranaivoson Trio featuring Elie Ramasindraibe, based in Itasy; and the Joro J Project, led by Joro Rakotozafiarison. This program aims to foster exchanges between local musicians and international artists.
The festival begins on October 29 in Antananarivo at the Andafiavaratra Palace with an inaugural “Jazz & Heritage” evening. On October 30, festivities move to Ampefy with a musical carnival led by the Bandy Baraka Big Band. On October 31, a large outdoor stage at Paulownia will host the main artists starting at 11:00 AM, followed by an indoor concert at Kavitaha at 8:00 PM. The festival concludes on November 1 at Jacky’s with the Sulaïman Hakim 5tet and the Joro J Project.
Founded in 2016 as the Nosy Be Jazz Festival, the event has evolved through various locations, including Sainte-Marie, before adopting its current identity. Beyond concerts, the festival integrates culture, tourism, and the local economy, featuring a festival village, artist meet-and-greets, and the promotion of local gastronomy and craftsmanship to showcase the Itasy region.
