International competitions continue for Malagasy judokas. Eleven fighters are set to compete in the African Junior and Cadet Championships, taking place from July 23 to 25 in Casablanca, Morocco. “Due to administrative procedures, we are unable to secure ministry subsidies for this trip. Therefore, we have informed the respective parents that they will need to cover the participation costs for the top-ranked fighters validated by the National Technical Directorate,” explained Éric Bruno Saïd, President of the Malagasy Judo Federation.
“We are concerned for the top-ranked judokas who have put in significant effort to maintain their standings for selection,” noted Jean-Yves Ravelojaona, technical manager of the Esca club. Four fighters are entered for the Cadet African Championship scheduled for July 23. The participation of three is confirmed: Hajaina Randrianaivoson (Esca, -55 kg), Kenzo Andrianiaina (Do Judo, -73 kg), and Saïd Hasimbola Wilan (ASSM, -81 kg). The status of Yves Yohan Ravelojaona (Esca, -66 kg) remains uncertain.
The Junior African Championship will take place on July 25. According to the federation president, five of the seven junior fighters have already secured funding, including Johannesburg Open gold medalist Kevin Emilson Ralevazaha (FJA, -66 kg), Saïd Rickey Jason (Saint-Michel, -90 kg), Roumaica Benandro (ASSM, -57 kg), as well as expatriate athletes Aina Mevasoa Rakotonandrasana (-57 kg) and Alice Randrianjohany (-78 kg). The participation of Sandaniaina Rakotomalala (ASSM, -66 kg) and Tody Raveloson Flavien (-60 kg) remains in question. Subsidies for international competitions remain inconsistent across all sports disciplines in Madagascar.
