The Malagasy selection achieved a flawless record of three victories in as many matches during the FIFA U15 World Cup in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Unbeatable. The Barea are showcasing their skills during this first edition of the FIFA U15 World Cup & Festival. The academicians from the Carion National Technical Center secured three consecutive wins this weekend at the youth eight-a-side football World Cup held in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The Barea started the competition on Saturday with a clear 2-0 victory against the Mozambican Mambas. 67 City striker Toky Niaina Fenohery Razafinimanana scored the very first goal for Madagascar. “I am very happy to have scored this first goal. I am very pleased to be able to offer this victory to Madagascar and to all Malagasy people,” rejoiced Toky after the match, which was played in two 20-minute halves. KM Académie de Toamasina striker Francisco Rafanomezanjanahary then scored the second goal, delivering the final blow.
The two matches on Sunday were particularly hard-fought. In the morning, the young Malagasy players, despite their small stature, won 4-2 against the technical mastery of the New Zealand All Whites. Dominating from start to finish, the Barea never conceded the lead. Mendrika Salomon Randriamanantena, an attacking midfielder for Ajesaia, opened the scoring before the New Zealanders equalized just before the break (1-1). Mendrika then scored a brace in the second half. The other two goals were scored by Toky and Riciano Fanomezana, a midfielder for ASJA d’Ambilobe.
The third match, played in the evening against Puerto Rico under the floodlights, lived up to all its promises. The two teams traded blows. Coach Jean-Jacques Pierre’s men initially led 2-1 thanks to goals from Yann Willy Nirintsoa (Toulon AC) and Barthélémy Andrianotahiana (Tsarahofana Fianarantsoa), before seeing their opponents come back and take the lead for the first time (2-3). Riciano then leveled the score (3-3), before Francisco secured the victory for the Malagasy side by scoring the winning goal two minutes before the final whistle.
Madagascar will play its last two matches of this first non-eliminatory evaluation phase on Monday. The Barea will face the Venezuelan Vinotinto at 8:00 AM (Malagasy time), before meeting the Somali Ocean Stars at 2:45 PM. The second and final stage of the U15 World Cup will follow from Tuesday to Saturday.
