INFRASTRUCTURES – The Anosizato bridge to be replaced

The current Anosizato bridge is set to be retired, making way for a new structure as part of the ‘Fly Over’ project. A second parallel bridge will be erected downstream, adjacent to the main structure. This is only part of the overall project, the centerpiece of which is a giant four-leaf clover interchange connecting the RN1 and RN58A roads. It features four ramps and four access slip roads, designed to eliminate level crossings that cause massive traffic jams in the area. Pedestrian walkways and bicycle lanes will also be integrated to ensure safe passage for pedestrians and cyclists.

The final countdown has begun. The Ministry of Public Works (MTP) is preparing to officially launch this major project by the end of July 2026. To coordinate this massive undertaking, MTP teams have held numerous working sessions with key stakeholders. Everything from distribution networks to digital infrastructure has been reviewed in collaboration with Jirama, the Authority for the Protection against Floods of the Antananarivo Plain (Apipa), fiber optic operator Yas, concessionaire CFAO, and the Ministry of Digital Development, Posts and Telecommunications (MNDPT) for the strategic management of surveillance cameras.

Regarding local residents, 80% of the files for those impacted by the project have already been collected and processed by authorities for compensation and expropriation purposes. Public consultation remains at the heart of the process. The evaluation committee of the National Office for the Environment (ONE), supported by the MTP, has met with the local population to address concerns and announce the imminent start of construction. For residents wishing to express their views, observation registers are open in the relevant ‘fokontany’ and communes until July 23. Two major public consultation meetings are scheduled to finalize the environmental permit: July 16 at the Anosizato parish hall and July 17 at the Mahamasina gymnasium.
