TRAFFIC – A new road will connect Ankorondrano to Ankasina

Studies for the Eastern Bypass extension project have resumed. A technical meeting dedicated to the project was held on October 29, 2026, at the Analakely City Hall, in the presence of representatives from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Urban Commune of Antananarivo (CUA).

“The work will be financed by a loan from the Japanese government. A Japanese team has arrived to carry out the project studies,” explained Yves Rasolonirina, Director General of Public Works at the Ministry of Public Works.

This new road will connect Ankorondrano to Ankasina. The project also includes the construction of an overhead interchange, or “flyover.” “Work will begin as soon as the funding is granted,” he specified.

Supported by the Ministry of Public Works in collaboration with the Japanese government through JICA, the project will require expropriations. Its cost is not yet known.

This extension of the Eastern Bypass was already mentioned in 2024. At that time, the Council of Ministers had approved the expropriations necessary for the creation of a link between Ankorondrano and Andohatapenaka. The relocation of the Alarobia fuel depot to Bongatsara was also planned at that time.
