As long as it remains flawed, those who depend on it remain stuck. There is no point in trying to maintain it artificially. To change the system, one must break with the old one. Some benefits no longer make sense today. For example, the fuel allowance for deputies reaches several million ariary, even though some live nearby. It is a waste. All of this must be reviewed.”
Mitterand Soanahelo, student at the University of Toliara: “We, the youth of Toliara, have come to present a common proposal: the establishment of a federal state and autonomous provinces. Everything is concentrated in Antananarivo. There is no visible decentralization in the regions, which does not help the development of Madagascar. In a federal system, we can advance culture, economy, politics, health, etc. We are in a democracy. Our ideas may not necessarily be adopted, but we will fight to ensure they are heard.”
Jean Lucien Andriatsara, a young person from the Sofia region living with a disability: “I notice that there is no infrastructure adapted to our disability. We feel sidelined. But I also feel that the government is listening to us. The very fact that this consultation is being held proves it. What is decided here must be implemented immediately afterward.”
