The youth of Toliara wish to play an active role in the development of the Atsimo Andrefana region, a sentiment they clearly expressed yesterday.
A carnival featuring traditional attire kicked off the International Youth Day celebrations in Toliara. Yesterday, young people marched from the Ankilifaly Youth Center to the iconic site of Ankilisoafilira, a venue known for exchange, demonstrations, and exhibitions that has brought fame to the ‘City of the Sun.’ The official ceremony was attended by the Prefect of Toliara, the Deputy Mayor, representatives of decentralized services in the Atsimo Andrefana region, and UN agencies.
The youth representative, who took the floor, thanked local authorities and encouraged young people to become a driving force for the region’s development. ‘Your presence testifies to your solidarity with the cause of the youth. Your presence is an honor for the youth of Toliara,’ said Jean Bernard Tovondrainy, a member of the Toliara Municipal Youth Council and president of the youth association ‘Arinosy Communication,’ addressing the guests. He added that the event was not merely a parade. ‘It is to demonstrate that young people constitute a force for change, which has, among other things, contributed to the advent of the new regime in which the country currently lives,’ he emphasized.
Basile Casimir Rambeloson, Regional Director of Youth and Sports for Atsimo Andrefana, expressed his pride in the youth of Toliara. ‘The youth of Atsimo Andrefana are physically and intellectually advantaged. They are important resources for the development of the region and the country,’ he noted.
Jean Bernard Tovondrainy mentioned that he dislikes the term ‘problem,’ preferring to use the word ‘challenges’ when discussing the obstacles and constraints faced by the youth of Toliara.
