RUGBY – Cosfa reclaims Madagascar championship title by defeating Uscar in Top 12 final

Back to the top. After being deprived of the Madagascar championship title since 2022, the Club Omnisports des Forces Armées (Cosfa) has reclaimed its throne. The military team snatched the Top 12 final victory from the Union Sportive et Culturelle de la Commune Urbaine d’Antananarivo (Uscar) with a score of 26-25 this Sunday at the Makis Stadium in Andohatapenaka.

In front of an enthusiastic crowd, the match lived up to all expectations following a delayed kickoff to welcome the officiating team led by a South African referee. Initially pressured by an incisive Uscar side (0-8 in the 9th minute), Cosfa kept their composure. Thanks to the kicking accuracy of Hery Zhinot, who scored a crucial drop goal in the 29th minute and a try in the 37th, the ‘Reds’ temporarily took the lead before trailing at halftime (14-15).

The second half turned into a true tactical and physical tug-of-war. Cosfa relied on the precision of their kicking game, scoring two successive drop goals shortly after the restart to regain the lead (20-15). Despite a surge from Uscar, who reclaimed the advantage in the 56th minute (20-25), the experience of the military team made the difference in the final moments. A decisive penalty in the 69th minute sealed the final score at 26-25, denying Uscar the victory, largely due to three missed penalties.

With this new victory on the national stage, Cosfa confirms its status as an unavoidable powerhouse of Malagasy rugby union. This coronation adds to an impressive collection of national titles won over the decades.
