COOPERATION WITH RUSSIA – Michaël Randrianirina seeks partnerships for development

In Moscow, President Michaël Randrianirina reaffirmed his commitment to consolidating relations with Russia and developing partnerships that meet the needs of the population.

The President of the Refoundation of the Republic of Madagascar, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, reiterated in Moscow his desire to strengthen partnerships that address the needs of the people. Discussions with his Russian counterparts focused on social projects and the continuation of military cooperation.

Upon his arrival in Moscow on Monday evening, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina held a working meeting dedicated to the prospects of cooperation between Madagascar and Russia. According to a statement from the Presidency of the Refoundation of the Republic, he met with Boris Chernyshov, responsible for relations with European, Asian, and African countries within the Eurasia group, as well as with representatives of Russian President Vladimir Putin in charge of peace issues in Africa.

The Head of State set the conditions for this rapprochement: cooperation must benefit the Malagasy people and contribute to the country’s economic development. “The goal is to develop sectors that meet the needs of the population,” he emphasized. This desire to strengthen ties with Moscow is accompanied by the maintenance of partnerships with other countries. Michaël Randrianirina recalled that Madagascar remains open to various forms of cooperation to support its development.

Discussions focused in particular on social projects for human development. Leaders of the Eurasia group announced funding of up to 10 million dollars to carry out various actions, such as youth training and the promotion of Russian culture and language.

Exchanges with Vladimir Putin’s representatives in charge of peace issues in Africa focused more on military cooperation. “This cooperation will be strengthened,” the statement from the Presidency of the Refoundation of the Republic indicated yesterday. Training provided by Russian military personnel to the Malagasy armed forces will thus continue. The meeting also resulted in the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Malagasy State and Russia, based on equal rights and common interests.

The Head of State, however, noted the reluctance of several foreign countries regarding the diplomatic orientations of the Refoundation regime, particularly the rapprochement with Russia. “There are attempts at destabilization and obstruction,” he declared. Despite these obstacles, he reaffirmed his willingness to deepen relations with Moscow, framing them within the objective of economic development and meeting the needs of the Malagasy people.
