FOOTBALL – MADAGASCAR CUP – Elgeco Plus defends its title against AS Valahara

The round of 16 of the Madagascar Cup will take place this weekend, with eleven teams from the championship still in the race for the title.

CFFA is aiming for a double. The newly crowned national champion, CFFA, along with ten other teams eliminated from the Pure Play Football League (PFL), will focus on the race for the Madagascar Cup starting this weekend.

Six matches will be held in the capital and two others in the regions. The team from Andoharanofotsy, the newly crowned champion of Madagascar, aspires to complete a double and will travel to Fenoarivo Atsinanana to face Babangy FC from Analanjiro on Sunday.

The winner of the previous edition, Elgeco Plus, who was eliminated by CFFA in the championship semi-finals, will defend its title at home against AS Valahara from Vakinankaratra this Sunday at the By-Pass. The 2024 national champion, Disciples FC, and the runner-up in the championship, Ajesaia, will meet in the round of 16 of the Cup this Sunday at the By-Pass.

Two matches of the round of 16 will take place on Saturday, both in Betongolo. On their home turf, the favorite team of the Northern conference, Cosfa, eliminated by CFFA in the championship quarterfinals, will host AS PTT. Also on Saturday, FC Rouge, knocked out by Elgeco Plus in the championship quarterfinals, will host Antimo Record from Atsimo-Andrefana. Two matches, including a duel between PFL clubs, are also scheduled for Sunday in Iavoloha. AS Sainte-Anne, a championship quarter-finalist, will play against Clinique Zanatany from Sofia, while Uscafoot will face AFCA from Sava. The second match outside the capital between Wagner FC from Ihorombe and Fosa Juniors FC from Boeny will be held in Ambovombe-Androy on Sunday.

The winners of the round of 16 will be determined this weekend. A draw will decide the schedule for the quarterfinals, which are set for July 12. The final is expected to be concluded no later than July 20, the deadline for entry into the CAF Confederation Cup.
