FOOTBALL – MADAGASCAR CUP – AS Sainte-Anne dethrones Elgeco Plus

The semi-finalists for the Madagascar Cup have been decided. Cosfa will face FC Rouge, and Wagner FC will play against AS Sainte-Anne.

Elgeco Plus suffered a double elimination in national competitions. After being knocked out by CFFA in the semi-finals of the Madagascar Championship, the defending champions were dethroned by AS Sainte-Anne in a tense quarter-final match at By-Pass yesterday, losing 6-5 on penalties.

The match ended in a goalless draw after regulation and extra time. Despite playing with ten men from the 40th minute following Tsikivy’s expulsion, AS Sainte-Anne held firm. Coach Clovis praised his team’s fighting spirit. Meanwhile, Elgeco Plus coach Oelison Careca Rafanomezantsoa raised concerns regarding player eligibility, a claim refuted by AS Sainte-Anne’s secretary general, Joseph Michel Randriamahalivololona, who stated all administrative procedures were completed.

In other matches, Cosfa secured revenge against CFFA with a 1-0 victory, thanks to a goal by Barea CHAN player Toky. Wagner FC advanced to the semi-finals after Ajesaia failed to travel for their match, marking their second consecutive victory by forfeit. Finally, FC Rouge defeated AS FA 2-1 in extra time in Antalaha.

The semi-finals are scheduled for July 22 at By-Pass.
