Analamanga, Atsimo Atsinanana, Boeny, and Ihorombe are the target regions for a project aimed at strengthening the safety and health of workers in quarries. This initiative is jointly supported by the Ministry of Labor, Employment, and Public Service and the International Labour Organization (ILO).
Construction material extraction activities expose workers to various occupational risks. Dust, noise, falling rocks, inadequate equipment, and accidents related to extraction operations can significantly impact their health and safety.
The project, dedicated to improving working conditions in the construction material extraction sector, particularly in quarries, aims to reinforce preventive measures at workplaces. It also plans to promote safety standards among workers and various stakeholders in the sector.
The implementation of this initiative was discussed during a meeting between Denis Franconio Mac, Minister of Labor, Employment, and Public Service, and Frederick Muia, ILO Representative in Madagascar, on September 14.
The intervention seeks to strengthen the prevention of work-related accidents and diseases in quarries while contributing to the improvement of working conditions for those employed in this sector.
