Madagascar basketball is in mourning. Sabine Anjarasoa Emmanuel, a former Madagascar national team player and a recognized coach, has passed away suddenly at the age of 58. The news has caused deep sorrow within the basketball community, both in Toamasina and throughout the country.
As the mother of Ibraïm Aziz, a player for the national ‘Ankoay’ team, Sabine dedicated a large part of her life to the development of Malagasy basketball. An international player in 1986, she wore the national colors with pride after shining in several benchmark clubs.
During her playing career, she notably played for ASSIMA Toamasina, ASFOI Antananarivo, and AS Port Toamasina.
After retiring from playing, she turned to coaching with the same passion. Her experience and rigor allowed her to lead several teams, including Gotham City Toamasina, ABB ASOS Brickaville, ASCUT Toamasina, and BCB Boeny. She later returned to the bench of Gotham City, a club to which she remained particularly attached.
As both a respected player and technician, Sabine Anjarasoa Emmanuel left a lasting mark on the national basketball landscape. Many are the players she accompanied and trained over the years.
Upon the announcement of her passing, the Malagasy Basketball Federation, its regional leagues, as well as all stakeholders in basketball expressed their profound sadness.
