Pedestrians using the Tsarasaotra bypass will soon be able to cross the road more safely. The Urban Commune of Antananarivo (CUA) has announced the construction of a pedestrian footbridge, which is expected to be operational by early August at the latest. This facility complements a series of measures taken by municipal authorities to enhance road user safety.
According to an authorized source within the CUA, technical studies have already been completed. The project is currently awaiting the signing of a public-private partnership (PPP) agreement, the final step before construction begins.
While awaiting this infrastructure, which is considered a sustainable solution to the recurring accidents in this area, the municipality began installing speed bumps this Sunday. This temporary measure was implemented immediately following the latest fatal accident on this route to reduce vehicle speed and mitigate accident risks.
Furthermore, public lighting has already been reinforced, our source indicated. “Work began on Friday and continued on Saturday with the installation of ‘cobra’ style streetlights. A total of 15 luminaires provided by Jirama are planned to cover this sector,” he explained.
These measures come as authorities continue investigations into the circumstances of the accident that claimed the life of a pedestrian last Thursday. The CUA also reiterates its call for motorists to respect speed limits and urges pedestrians to cross only at designated areas.
Although improvements have already been made on the Tsarasaotra road, including road markings, pedestrian crossings, and speed bumps, local residents believe these measures are insufficient to ensure safe use of the bypass.
