RELIGION – Colonel Michaël Randrianirina calls on the State and the Church to work together for the country’s development

The President of the Refondation, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, has called for close cooperation between the State and the Churches to promote the country’s development. He spoke on Sunday in Morondava during the episcopal consecration of Mgr Jeannot Martial Andrianandrainy, the new auxiliary bishop of the diocese.

Before Catholic faithful, religious authorities, and numerous political figures, the head of the Refondation welcomed the appointment of this new auxiliary, whom he considers a “new force” for the Catholic Church in Madagascar. He reiterated that the secularism of the State should not be interpreted as opposition to religious denominations, but as a framework allowing for collaboration in the service of the common good.

“The secularism of the State does not mean that the Church is the enemy of the State,” declared the President of the Refondation, inviting Christians to continue their commitment to the country’s development.

The celebration, held in the courtyard of the Maria Manjaka Cathedral in Morondava, brought together a large crowd of faithful who came to welcome their new auxiliary bishop. The former vicar general of Antsirabe was appointed to this new role by Pope Leo XIV on June 3rd. He received his episcopal consecration during a solemn mass presided over by Mgr Marie Fabien Raharilamboniaina. He becomes the second auxiliary bishop of Morondava after Mgr Jean Nicolas Rakotojaona, who has been transferred to Fianarantsoa as coadjutor archbishop.
