Antananarivo, July 10, 2026 – The first meeting of the Steering Committee (COPIL) for the MIRA project (Focusing on Information, Respect, and Accompaniment) was held at the French Embassy in Antananarivo.
Funded by the French Embassy until September 2027, the MIRA project aims to significantly improve women’s healthcare in Antananarivo by enhancing the quality, accessibility, and humanization of care, while combating gynecological and obstetric violence. The project seeks systemic change to ensure every Malagasy woman has access to respectful, rights-based healthcare services. It focuses on strengthening existing health facilities in Antananarivo city through capacity building for medical staff in areas such as humanized care, gynecological pathology management, and psychological first aid. Simultaneously, the project will bolster advocacy and awareness efforts regarding gender-based violence, particularly gynecological and obstetric violence, to foster multisectoral mobilization and influence public policy.
The meeting brought together key public institutions, health structures, and partner organizations, including the General Directorate for Healthcare Provision (DGFS), the Directorate of Family Health (DSFA), the Directorate of Studies, Planning and Information Systems (DEPSI), the Analamanga Regional Directorate of Public Health, the Tana City District Public Health Service, the Service for the Fight against Non-Communicable Diseases (DLMNT), the National Program for the Fight against STIs/HIV/AIDS (PNLS), the Directorate for the Promotion of Women and Gender at the Ministry of Population, as well as FISA, Maison des Enfants, and the French Embassy.
The COPIL serves as the project’s strategic governance body, ensuring proper implementation, partner coordination, and strategic direction. This inaugural session focused on presenting governance mechanisms, examining technical and logistical challenges, and discussing coordination modalities among stakeholders. The committee members agreed on collaboration principles, with decisions to be documented in a formal report shared with all partners.
