The Urban Commune of Antananarivo (CUA) has set the housing allowance for its employees at 50,000 Ariary, a figure aligned with its current financial capacity. Feno Ralambomanana, President of the Special Delegation (PDS) of Antananarivo, clarified this in response to staff demands, noting that discussions have already been initiated with workers on the matter.
The Ministry of Interior and Decentralization previously stated that the payment of this allowance depends on the financial capacity of each local authority. Consequently, the amount can vary from 14,000 to 200,000 Ariary per month. According to union president Jean François Raharijaona, the total expected amount for CUA agents would reach 64,000 Ariary per month, consisting of the 50,000 Ariary announced by the Commune plus the 14,000 Ariary already received previously.
The union has not yet indicated whether it accepts this proposal. However, it is demanding the payment of arrears dating back to July, arguing that agents should have benefited from this allowance starting from that period.
The PDS acknowledges the principle of these arrears but specifies that payment will need to be staggered due to the Commune’s budgetary constraints. As the August salary is already being processed, the arrears cannot be included in this payment cycle.
The union intends to continue its advocacy for the employees, with future demands potentially being raised directly during general assemblies or specific meetings with the PDS.
