POST-BACCALAUREATE – New academic streams aligned with higher education

The new L (Literary), S (Scientific), and OSE (Organization-Society-Economy) streams have been designed to align with higher education, according to information gathered. “They facilitate access to higher education,” stated Professor Angelo Raherinirina, Director General of Higher Education at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, yesterday.

Higher education is divided into three major fields, and high school curricula have been adjusted accordingly. Thus, there is Science and Technology for the scientific stream, Science and Society for the OSE stream, and Humanities and Letters for the literary stream. “With the old streams, graduates had difficulty making choices. For example, candidates from the A2 stream, who make up 60% of applicants, were neither scientific nor literary,” the source continued. The new teaching program applied alongside these streams also provides the cross-disciplinary knowledge necessary for university access.

Higher education studies are structured according to this logic, and their criteria have been adapted. Specifically, a graduate from the S stream is directed toward scientific and technological paths such as Medicine, Science, Agronomy, or Polytechnic schools. The L stream prepares students for humanities and letters, such as language studies, History, Geography, Anthropology, and Philosophy. The OSE stream prepares students for science and society fields, such as Management, Economics, and Sociology.

This organization also applies to studies abroad. “It follows the international system, which emphasizes orientation by specialization. For graduates, this facilitates the choice of specialization and study options outside the country,” the official explained. Orientation by specialization thus becomes the guiding thread from high school to higher education.
