The Higher School of Marine Officers, the National School of Maritime Education (ENEM) in Mahajanga, has reached a new milestone in its international expansion. Since September 25, it has been recognized by the Maritime Search and Rescue Council (MSRAC) as an “approved training center,” marking its entry into the international network of maritime training institutions.
This recognition also signifies ENEM’s integration into the Indian Ocean Maritime Security and Safety Institute. An inaugural plaque was officially unveiled for the occasion, and the certificate was presented to ENEM Director General Manatsampa Mitondrarivo Rekoria by the MSRAC representative from London.
The certification follows a training session held from September 23 to 25 at ENEM, focused on maritime disaster rescue. Twenty-two officers from Djibouti, Tanzania, Mauritius, Seychelles, Comoros, Mozambique, and Madagascar participated. Six international trainers led the session, which included practical exercises in Search and Rescue (SAR) at sea.
“This recognition is a great honor for Madagascar and confirms ENEM’s integration into the international training body,” stated Director General Manatsampa Mitondrarivo Rekoria, expressing gratitude to the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) and other partners.
Luc Rasoloson, Director General of Maritime, River, and Air Transport (DGTMFA), representing the Minister of Transport and Meteorology, emphasized the ministry’s commitment to improving maritime safety. Following the training, officers and participants from the Port, Maritime, and River Agency (APMF Madagascar) received certificates, and their names were entered into the International Seafarers’ Register and Madagascar’s Maritime Rescue Register.
