More than three decades after introducing ‘tsapiky’ music to the general public, Tirike has announced the upcoming release of Siloke, a seventh album that continues the story of his iconic track, Vinanto.
After a career spanning over thirty years, the Malagasy artist is currently finalizing vocal recordings for Siloke. “‘Siloke’ means ‘sick’ in the language of the South. I enjoy using Malagasy vocabulary specific to our region, with words that many people do not know,” he explains.
Comprising ten tracks, the album primarily explores the theme of love. It serves as a sequel to Vinanto, the song that defined his career thirty-four years ago. “This album is the continuation of Vinanto, the story of a man who lost his wife and confides in his in-laws,” Tirike says.
Born in Ampanihy as Enomeany Augustin Tirike, the artist grew up immersed in the culture of the South. A self-taught musician, he composes by playing all the instruments himself before handing the arrangements to his collaborators. “As long as I can sing, I will sing. As long as I can create, I will create,” he asserts.
Tirike’s career took a turning point in the early 1990s. His group, initially formed as Etiaugeno’s Group, achieved massive success in 1991 with the cassette featuring the track Anao Zay. A pioneer of the tsapiky genre on major stages, he has helped promote this musical style in national and international festivals, including being a finalist in the 1996 RFI Discovery contest.
Beyond his musical career, Tirike manages the Atimo Teako platform, which provides aid to vulnerable populations in the Great South of Madagascar, focusing on access to clean water and supporting families in need.
