The Head of State remains committed to the 2027 election timeline. Speaking on UN Radio on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Colonel Randrianirina reaffirmed his determination to adhere to the Refoundation schedule.
Organizing elections before the end of 2027 is a significant challenge given the various political parameters. In an interview in New York, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina emphasized that he believes in the calendar, stating, ‘I am a man of my word.’ The Refoundation Program aims to hold a constitutional referendum between May and July 2027, followed by the presidential election by the end of the year.
The President outlined the necessary steps, starting with the presentation of conclusions from political consultations held at Iavoloha, expected in November. This will be followed by a reform of the legal framework, as the current electoral code is deemed no longer credible. Furthermore, the status of the Independent National Electoral Commission (Ceni) remains a subject of debate, with potential reforms on the table to ensure credibility.
While the Refoundation Program includes two electoral deadlines, the Colonel specifically highlighted the constitutional referendum. The process relies on the outcomes of national consultations, though the timeline proposed by the FFKM (Council of Christian Churches in Madagascar) currently differs from the government’s official schedule.
