The regional health directorate of Atsimo Andrefana aims for a coverage rate of at least 95% among children under five targeted by the 2026 vaccination campaign. In total, 94,253 children are set to receive Vitamin A, while 431,957 are targeted for polio vaccination and 352,135 for measles vaccination.
“We are using every means to reach these children. We are mobilizing vehicles and, above all, men and women. We are even working with highwaymen, the ‘dahalo’ as they are called here. They help our community agents in red zones to bring children to health centers. They understand the importance of vaccination and are committed to assisting these community agents,” explains Raphaël Hotahiane, Regional Director of Health for Atsimo Andrefana.
The vaccination campaign took place across the nine districts of the region. Its official launch was hosted at the Betania Basic Health Center (CSB) in the urban commune of Toliara I on October 5th, attended by the head of the region, General Olivier Miandrisoa.
