Russia and Burkina Faso will hold the first meeting of their Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation in Moscow on September 16. Preparations for this meeting were discussed on Monday by the Russian side of the commission, which met at the Ministry of Energy.
The meeting is intended to examine several areas of cooperation between the two countries, particularly in trade, energy, industry, agriculture, and education. Representatives of Russian federal executive authorities and domestic companies participated in the discussions.
Economically, Moscow has identified priority sectors including the supply of agricultural products, machinery and equipment, investments, and the implementation of joint projects. Russia also plans to offer Burkina Faso technological solutions for the development and reconstruction of its electrical infrastructure. Industrial cooperation could also focus on agricultural machinery, civil unmanned aerial systems, and pharmaceutical products.
“We see great potential for developing Russian-Burkinabe cooperation in a wide range of areas,” said Russian Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev. He believes that Russian technologies, engineering solutions, and expertise in education meet the demand in Africa.
Agricultural cooperation is also among the topics addressed, particularly in plant breeding and seed production. Both parties are also considering exchanges in specialist training, the supply of veterinary vaccines, and the training of Burkinabe professionals in the veterinary field.
Education is another pillar of this cooperation. Discussions cover higher education, general and vocational education, as well as continuing education. The learning of the Russian language is also included. The Southern Federal University plans to send Russian language teachers to Burkina Faso by the end of the year.
