On Sunday, Zavamaneno Rodobe brought together around a hundred musicians and singers for a session of hymns and praise, following the tradition of the Reformed Church.
This collective musical celebration, organized by the FJKM Tsarafara Musicians’ Association, distinguishes itself from a standard concert by its worship-focused concept, where every participant becomes an active contributor. Approximately 150 people took part, including about 60 musicians.
Instruments such as the organ, violin, flute, guitar, saxophone, trumpet, and clarinet accompanied the singing. Participants came from various backgrounds, some of whom had never played together within the FJKM before.
According to association president Rijaniaina Tantely Rakotoarivelo, the concept aims to break from routine by prioritizing singing and praise in the Reformed tradition, while promoting FFPM hymns. The event also offered a musical journey through the history of hymnology.
Musicians and singers from churches in Analakely and Ambohimamory, as well as the Iarivo Avaradrano Regional Synod, participated in this edition. Eight songs were performed collectively, accompanied by historical context.
The repertoire paid tribute to Fanny Crosby, author of many English hymns, including “To God Be the Glory,” before transitioning to FFPM hymns such as “Andriananahary Masina Indrindra,” “Maniry Mafy Aho,” “Midera ny Anaranao,” and “Satrio Vonihanitra.” The gathering concluded with “Enganie ka Homba Anao Jesoa.”
No general rehearsal was held; participants practiced the scores provided online individually before meeting to perform together. Many participants are already hoping for a second edition to continue this collective experience of song and praise.
