200 Meters – Tojo Mamisoa Reigns Supreme

The Malagasy sprint championship concluded at the Alarobia track. In the men’s category, Tojo Mamisoa, representing COSFA Analamanga, proved to be the fastest in the 200m, clinching the Madagascar champion title. He finished the race in 21.59 seconds, ahead of his teammate Patrice Remandro, who took the silver medal with 21.88 seconds.

The bronze medal went to Fabrice Ratovoarimonja from ASPANATO Atsimo Andrefana. This victory marks another milestone for Tojo Mamisoa, who has stood out throughout these national championships for his performances in both individual sprints and relays.

This race held particular significance in preparation for the 2027 Indian Ocean Island Games (JIOI). The time recorded by the new national champion provides a benchmark for the current level of Malagasy sprinting against regional standards.

With a time of 21.59 seconds, Tojo Mamisoa remains some distance from the Indian Ocean Island Games record, held by Mauritian Stéphane Buckland, who clocked 20.46 seconds on September 6, 2003, in Mauritius. The gap highlights the work required to compete at the highest regional level in the upcoming Games.

In the women’s category, the ESAA club from Analamanga achieved a clean sweep. Ny Aina Anna Andrianjafy secured the national title in 24.8 seconds, ahead of her teammates Zo Rakotonar and Andyh Embony, who finished with 25.1 and 25.7 seconds respectively. This collective dominance confirms the strength of women’s sprinting within the club.

While the gap to world records remains significant, these national championships provide a positive foundation. With tailored preparation and enhanced support, the top Malagasy sprinters have just over a year to narrow the gap with regional benchmarks before the 2027 JIOI.
