The group Sanare treated the audience to a musical journey where Korean and Malagasy traditions met in harmony.
The sounds of Korean ‘gugak’ resonated on Saturday evening at the Novotel, where music became a symbol of friendship between Korea and Madagascar. Organized to mark the 10th anniversary of the opening of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Madagascar, the Sanare concert transported the audience into a universe where tradition and modernity respond to one another.
The group offered a beautiful surprise to the Malagasy public by performing “Namana,” a song by the group Tsiakoraka, illustrating the meeting of the two countries’ musical heritages.
Created in 2021, Sanare, whose name means “angel wings,” is a fusion ensemble of traditional Korean music. The group has set itself the mission of sharing the richness of Korean musical heritage around the world. Since its inception, it has performed in several countries, including within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), India, and Germany. In Madagascar, the artists presented a show blending music, dance, singing, and storytelling inspired by ancient Korean legends. The sounds of the daegeum, gayageum, and pansori harmoniously combined with the violin, cello, and piano, offering a musical experience that was both authentic and contemporary.
Bonds of Friendship
In her speech, Park Ji-hyun, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Madagascar, emphasized that this concert pays tribute to the bonds of friendship uniting the two countries while paving the way for new perspectives of cooperation. “Ten years since the opening of the embassy is also ten years of shared emotions with the Malagasy people, and we are delighted to celebrate this milestone in music with the government of Madagascar,” she declared.
The evening took place in the presence of the Prime Minister, the Minister in charge of Refoundation, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Minister of Communication and Culture, the Minister Delegate in charge of the National Gendarmerie, members of the diplomatic corps, partners of the embassy, and numerous guests.
Beyond the musical celebration, this evening marks the launch of a commemorative program that will continue throughout the year with several events, including film screenings and a Business Forum, aimed at further strengthening exchanges between Korea and Madagascar.
