Public Health: Eight military associate professors, including four new ones, now serving at Soavinandriana Hospital Center

The number of associate professors active at the Soavinandriana Hospital Center (Cenhosoa) has doubled, rising from four to eight. This development expands the expertise available within the institution across several medical specialties, a reinforcement expected to impact both patient care and medical training.

The four military medical specialists joined the circle of associate professors after passing the national aggregation competition in human medicine and odontostomatology, held in Antananarivo from September 8 to 11, 2026. Among the newly promoted are General Professor Rija Mikhaël Miandrisoa, a cardiologist and special advisor to the Cenhosoa general management, and Colonel Professor Rosa Lalao Tsifiregna, a pediatric specialist and head of the neuropediatrics unit. Professor Patrick Sandra Rakotozanany, head of the neurosurgery department, and Lieutenant-Colonel Professor Herilalao Elisabeth Razafindrafara, an anatomopathology specialist, are also on the list.

They join four other associate professors already in service: Professor Willy Ratovondrainy, Director of Cenhosoa and neurosurgery specialist; Professors Romuald Randriamahavonjy and Hary Rabarikoto in gynecology; and Professor Rodrigue Emile Hasiniatsy in medical oncology.

Beyond academic titles, this concentration of specialists will primarily strengthen Cenhosoa’s capabilities in areas requiring high-level expertise, including cardiology, neurosurgery, pediatrics, gynecology, medical oncology, and anatomopathology.

Furthermore, they will contribute to knowledge transfer. These professors also participate in training future doctors, both civilian and military, within hospital and university structures. The goal is to make this new generation of professors a bridge between specialized medical practice, teaching, and the improvement of care.

Out of approximately one hundred medical personnel practicing at Cenhosoa, 88 are military doctors. Another military professor, Professor Fidiniaina Randriatsarafara, a specialist in public health and preventive medicine, works with the Central Directorate of Military Health Services. There are also five retired military professors.
