Circuit Training has officially entered the Malagasy sports scene. Organized by Zaka Rise Mada with the support of Yas Madagascar, the first national competition for this discipline took place at the Mahamasina indoor gymnasium this weekend. The event brought together nearly 80 participants to test their physical abilities on a course combining endurance, power, speed, and coordination.
Circuit training is a workout method that involves performing several different physical exercises in succession, with little to no recovery time between them. The goal is to engage the entire body while simultaneously developing strength, endurance, speed, agility, and coordination.
Competitors faced a series of functional exercises: push-ups, squats, burpees, box jumps, jump rope, and sprints. The day was marked by a friendly atmosphere where fair play, mutual aid, and respect took center stage—a way for the organizers to demonstrate that sports can be a true driver of social cohesion.
In the men’s category, Jeff Nantenaina took the top spot ahead of José Rajaona and Michael Ramarosandratana. The winner walked away with a check for 2 million ariary, while the second and third place finishers received one million and 500,000 ariary respectively, along with gifts from partners. In the women’s category, Fabiola Razafinimanana claimed first place ahead of Valisoa Fitiavana and Tsiky Chantal, receiving the same rewards.
For Patrick Duran, president of Zaka Rise Mada and promoter of the project, the goal of this first edition was to bring together athletes from all walks of life for a common challenge. “We wanted to create a unifying event that allows participants to exchange ideas, share experiences, and push their limits together in an atmosphere defined by fair play and mutual encouragement,” he explained.
Co-organizer of the event, Alain Leumessi, also expressed satisfaction with the enthusiasm generated by this first edition. “Our goal was to bring sports enthusiasts together around a challenge accessible to everyone, while promoting positive values like respect, commitment, and team spirit. The level of participation shows that there is a genuine interest in this discipline in Madagascar,” he emphasized.
