The Malagasy delegation returns from Algiers with two bronze medals, four qualifications for the World Championships, and two continental certifications.
Held from September 5 to 13, 2026, in Algiers, the African Karate Championship brought together the best nations on the continent. In a highly competitive environment dominated by North African countries, Madagascar managed to contend for top honors.
Ornella Iriantsoa and Ayrton Mahery Rakotomamonjy each secured a bronze medal. These performances also qualified them for the World Championships scheduled for October 14 to 18, 2026, in Bielsko-Biała, Poland. Mathieu and Tiary also earned their qualifications based on their rankings, bringing Madagascar’s total representation at the world event to four athletes.
These medals are particularly significant given the high level of competition, confirming the ability of Malagasy karatekas to compete against opponents from nations with more developed sports structures and extensive international experience.
In addition to the athletic success, the Malagasy delegation made progress in technical leadership. Thierry Randrianasolo obtained the rank of continental judge, while Sensei Rindra earned the qualification of continental coach. These certifications strengthen Madagascar’s presence in the technical management of African karate.
