Expatriates in the Seychelles have saved the honor of the Big Island. Two former members of the national team who have been playing in the Seychelles for a decade, Melissa Rambony and Alfred Rose de Lima, reached the podium by clinching the bronze medal at the first stage of the CAVB Zone 7 tournament.
The pair, Melissa and Rose, narrowly missed the final after a semifinal defeat against the Mauritian team of Valentine and Elisa Stephe, with a score of 1-2 (21/13, 22/23, 11/15), on Sunday at the Paradise Sports Complex in Roche Caïman, Seychelles. In the third-place playoff match yesterday, they defeated the Seychellois pair Lutra and Vanita 2-0 (21/9, 21/16).
Melissa and Rose finished second in the standings after the qualifying phase, recording three wins and one loss. The second women’s team, composed of Andriamihasoa Ravonintseheno and Yannick Joëlle Harinirina Andrianirina, finished at the bottom of the rankings in the qualifying phase, suffering four losses in as many matches. The men’s duo, Bradley Andrianjafy and Robsell Thierry, also failed to secure a spot in the finals.
