Two lots have been withdrawn from the upcoming public auction by sealed bid, scheduled from September 21 to 25 at the Mahajanga Customs offices.
Officials discovered that the goods contained in two containers were expired dairy products. They subsequently sealed them at the port of Mahajanga. This discovery occurred as the Mahajanga Customs office was preparing to organize the auction of forty-three lots of goods.
Agents from the Regional Directorate of Commerce and Consumer Affairs (DRCC) of Boeny conducted an inspection operation on September 7 and found that the expiration date of the products had long passed.
“Lots number 13 and 14 are excluded from the sale because the goods, which are condensed milk, are already expired, according to the results of the inspection carried out. The procedure for destroying products unfit for consumption is already underway,” stated an official press release signed on September 11 by the Customs Receiver, Russel Gérard Biankinana.
The Ministry of Commerce and Consumer Affairs explained, “The products, whose expiration date was April 2026, remained at the port of Mahajanga due to the non-payment of customs duties by the importing company. At the request of the Customs Receiver, the DRCC Boeny proceeded with their inspection on September 7, 2026.”
Regarding the auction, the Mahajanga Customs Receiver also provided details on the deadlines to be respected after the publication of the results. “These deadlines must be respected to ensure the smooth running of the sale, in accordance with the notice of public auction by sealed bid, and to preserve the rights of all participants. Payment of 14% of the hammer price to the auctioneer must be made before September 28 at 11 a.m. IM9 declarations must be registered and liquidated before September 28 at 5 p.m. In the event of default by the first successful bidder, the second must pay the auctioneer 14% of the price corresponding to their offer before September 28 at 5 p.m.,” the statement specified.
Access to the port for visiting the lots stored in the warehouses will be free from September 21 to 23, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
