AMBOHIMANGAKELY – Gendarmes recover a stolen motorcycle

A motorcycle stolen in Ambohimangakely was recovered in Toamasina seven months later. Investigations conducted by the Ambohimalaza gendarmerie led to the arrest of several individuals suspected of involvement in the theft and resale of the two-wheeler. Some suspects have been placed in pre-trial detention, while others were questioned as witnesses.

On March 31, a light blue Yamaha RSZ scooter was stolen in Ambohimangakely. The owner immediately filed a complaint with the gendarmerie, triggering a search. Investigations by the gendarmes finally yielded results several months later. On October 12, the vehicle was located in Toamasina. Three gendarmes traveled to the site to pursue legal proceedings and identify those in possession of the motorcycle.

“The stolen motorcycle was found at the home of a couple in Mangarivotra, Toamasina. They claimed to have purchased it from their immediate neighbor. The latter, who was also arrested, stated that he bought it through a social network. The investigation continued in Antananarivo, where a person suspected of shipping the two-wheeler to Toamasina was arrested. Finally, the two men who allegedly sold the motorcycle on Facebook were also apprehended. They are identified as the direct perpetrators of the theft. One of them has been placed in pre-trial detention, while the second has been placed under judicial supervision,” the gendarmerie stated.
