Fire struck Jirama’s facilities in Tanjombato twice this weekend. A second fire broke out on Sunday afternoon at the company’s premises, just one day after an initial incident that destroyed 196 new electricity meters. According to the Ministry of Energy and Hydrocarbons, several pieces of equipment and documents were damaged by the flames once again.
The case is now in the hands of the authorities, the ministry emphasized, noting that the Director of Infrastructure and Support (DIS) visited the site on Sunday to assess the damage and monitor the situation. The ministry reported that this second incident also resulted in damage to equipment and documents.
The first fire, which occurred on Saturday afternoon, affected a room housing the meter readers and the technical department of Jirama. Initial estimates provided by authorities indicated that 196 new electricity meters were burned, along with cables and electrical panels. The fire also reached part of the building’s upper floor.
Firefighters intervened to bring the flames under control. Power supply to the site was temporarily interrupted to mitigate fire-related risks. Law enforcement officials have conducted initial investigations. The meters damaged in the first fire are subject to laboratory analysis to determine which ones can still be reused. The circumstances surrounding both fires remain to be established.
