Recurrent water rising is being observed in Andravoahangy, hindering residents’ daily lives and complicating pedestrian and vehicular traffic. The daily routine of residents is disrupted, especially after rainfall. Waters sometimes rise up to the knee, making roads impassable for pedestrians.
“Infrastructure built over drainage canals is blocking the normal flow of water in Andravoahangy. This situation promotes water stagnation in several neighborhoods. It is the main cause of the problem here,” says Daniel, a local resident.
The first vice-president of the Urban Commune of Antananarivo, accompanied by the Director General of the Municipal Sanitation Company (SMA), the second deputy delegate of the Mayor of Tana III, and several other officials, visited the site in Andravoahangy the day before yesterday to assess the persistent accumulation of water.
On the ground, they engaged with residents and local leaders to identify the causes of the issue affecting neighbors and road users. Provisional measures have been taken, and cleaning and repair work has been carried out to reduce the effects of the stagnant water.
