Authorities are planning to install a pedestrian footbridge in Tsarasaotra. This decision follows a fatal accident that occurred on this route last week.
Measures to strengthen user safety on the Tsarasaotra-Ivato road were announced last week by the Urban Commune of Antananarivo (CUA) following a surge in traffic accidents. Among the planned projects is the installation of a footbridge for pedestrians crossing the road. “It is scheduled to be operational by early August at the latest,” an authorized source from the CUA stated.
A new fatal accident has reignited the anger of Soavimasoandro residents. Last Friday, they protested on the road connecting Tsarasaotra to Ivato to demand the construction of a pedestrian bridge.
The implementation of this infrastructure is currently being prepared. According to a CUA source, technical studies are already complete. The project is awaiting the signing of a public-private partnership (PPP) agreement, the final step before construction begins.
The CUA also plans to raise the existing speed bumps. “Cobra”-style streetlights have also been installed to improve visibility and safety in the area.
These measures follow the fatal accident that occurred on the evening of Thursday, July 16, on the Tsarasaotra-Ivato road.
Road safety measures had already been implemented on the RN52 national road connecting Tsarasaotra to Ivato in March, following protests by local residents who denounced the series of accidents and fatalities recorded since the road’s opening.
The Ministry of Public Works had previously installed speed reduction devices and pedestrian facilities to mitigate accident risks on this stretch.
The Commune calls on drivers to respect speed limits and exercise caution behind the wheel. It also urges pedestrians to remain vigilant and cross only at designated areas.
