A 17-year-old girl allegedly killed her two-month-old baby. She reportedly explained that she had been deceived and abused by the child’s father, who then abandoned her when she expressed her desire to continue her studies. The tragedy occurred on Thursday in the commune of Ambatomirahavavy, in the Arivonimamo district.
Alerted by a call, gendarmes from the local brigade arrived at the scene. The infant, already lifeless, had been transported by family members and local residents to the health center, while the mother was apprehended by the neighborhood patrol and villagers. According to initial testimonies, it was the child’s grandmother who discovered the baby unresponsive on a bed before alerting the neighborhood.
During her arrest, the young mother reportedly confessed to having struck her baby with a piece of wood and submerging the infant in water. Following a medical examination, the victim’s body was returned to the family. The teenager is currently being held in police custody, and the case will be referred to the judicial authorities for further investigation.
