Shootout. A feared criminal figure in Ambatomaro and his alleged accomplice were killed during an operation by the National Police on Saturday evening.
Wanted for months for assault, robbery, and rape, the kingpin known as “Capsat” had escaped a first attempt at arrest on January 22. Spotted in a bar, he had fled toward Ambatolampikely, prompting law enforcement to launch a manhunt to locate him.
On Saturday, the Rapid Intervention Unit intercepted him and his gang as they were planning a robbery in the area. At the time of their arrest, Capsat and one of his associates attempted to seize the officers’ weapons. The agents retaliated, and both suspects succumbed to their injuries.
Four other suspects were arrested.
Witnesses reported seeing several masked police officers intervening in the Rakmal neighborhood around 8:00 p.m. The captured bandits were seen handcuffed as they were being led away.
According to the police, Capsat had been identified as one of the most active gang leaders in the sector.
