The urban landscape is evolving around the Eastern Bypass. Since mid-June, construction machinery has been working to demolish parts of the concrete curbs. A new municipal road is currently being built at this location. This future strategic route will provide a direct connection between the Ambolokandrina neighborhood and the Eastern Bypass. Two distinct new openings will serve as entrance and exit points onto the bypass. Expected to last five months, this major project is scheduled to be completed by November 2026.
According to project plans, the new road incorporates several key amenities. A large signage board installed at the site entrance indicates the construction of water collection canals and improved intersections for pedestrians and cyclists.
This is a public-private partnership (PPP) formed between the Ministry of Land Management and Land Services and the Indian Ocean Trading Company, according to the information displayed on the site. When questioned, internal sources at the ministry stated they had no information regarding the ongoing work.
The construction of this road is welcomed by road users and residents of the neighborhood. “We no longer have to take the detour via Mahazo or Ambohipo to reach the Bypass,” says Hery, an Ambolokandrina resident.
