CFFA, the reigning champion of Madagascar, suffered a 4-0 defeat against Young Africans SC on Saturday in Tanzania during the first leg of the second preliminary round of the African Champions League.
It was a heavy loss for the Centre de formation de football d’Andoharanofotsy (CFFA). The Malagasy champions were dominated by Young Africans SC (4-0) at the Azam Complex Stadium in Dar es-Salaam, Tanzania.
The Andoharanofotsy team held firm for the first half-hour before conceding a goal to Touré in the 40th minute. The Tanzanians headed into the locker room with a one-goal lead.
“The players started the match well, but lost concentration after the first Tanzanian goal, which came from a ball poorly handled by Goal Kely and recovered by an opponent,” explained CFFA coach Franck Rajaonarisamba.
After the break, Young Africans SC quickly widened the gap. Kangwanda doubled the lead in the 47th minute, before Modathir (54th) and Maxi (59th) brought the score to 4-0 in less than fifteen minutes.
“The Young Africans SC players have a very high technical and tactical level. We suffered in the second half. We lacked rhythm, and our opponent gained the physical upper hand. This seems logical to me, as the Tanzanian league is in full swing,” admitted Franck Rajaonarisamba.
Despite this heavy setback, the coach intends to remobilize his group for the second leg. “We will try to do better in the return leg and attempt to turn the situation around to save the country’s honor. Several changes in the team composition will be necessary,” he announced.
The return leg is scheduled for Wednesday, October 21, at the Azam Complex Stadium in Dar es-Salaam. CFFA will need to overcome a four-goal deficit against an opponent with more experience on the African stage.
