CULTURE – Vakodrazana aims to conquer a new generation with “Vaky Sehatra”

Promoting and restoring the place of “Vakodrazana” among the younger generation is the ambition behind “Vaky Sehatra,” an event organized for the first time by “Vovonambe,” which brings together Vakodrazana practitioners in Madagascar. Songs, dances, and various forms of performances from several regions of the country will be presented to the public on September 27, starting at 2:00 PM, at Havoria Anosy. The goal is to highlight various traditional cultural expressions that are sometimes little known or gradually abandoned by young people.

For the organizers, transmission is a central issue today. The presentation forms of Vakodrazana can evolve to adapt to their time without losing their identity and foundations. The aim is to bring children and young people closer to this heritage through formats that are likely to interest them.

Among the highlights announced is the “dihy gasy vakodrazana,” featuring forms specific to Antananarivo. Artists from Alaotra-Mangoro and other regions will also participate in the event. The “Betatoato,” a traditional dance intended to be passed on to younger generations, will be part of the program.

This first edition also marks the beginning of a broader ambition: to strengthen ties between actors in the sector, develop cultural initiatives in different regions, and gradually build a national documentary heritage. “Vaky Sehatra” is thus intended as a first step toward a larger project, which could lead to the creation of a festival dedicated to “Vakodrazana.”
