AMBATOMIRAHAVAVY – A scooter rider dies on his 37th birthday

A 37-year-old Yamaha C2 scooter rider died on his birthday, Friday around 9 p.m., on the RN1 road in Ambohidranomanga, in the commune of Ambatomirahavavy.

His two-wheeler, which was carrying a 24-year-old passenger, struck the rear of a Mercedes 911 truck parked on the side of the road. The heavy vehicle, which had broken down, had not set up a warning triangle, using only tree branches, which did not provide sufficient warning to other road users.

According to gathered testimonies, several circumstances contributed to the tragedy. The truck was poorly signaled despite the straightness of the road. The scooter rider, who had reportedly consumed alcohol during his birthday celebrations, was driving at high speed and did not have enough time to brake effectively upon spotting the stationary vehicle.

The impact was fatal for the driver, who died instantly. His passenger was seriously injured and is currently hospitalized. The gendarmes emphasize the importance of vigilance, the prohibition of driving under the influence of alcohol, and compliance with safety regulations. An investigation is underway.
