A 3-year-old child, kidnapped in Ankarinarivo, in the commune of Soavina, Betafo district, was found safe and sound on the morning of October 22, one week after the attack that claimed his father’s life. According to a local source, the child is in good health and has already been returned to his family.
On the night of the attack, four armed individuals broke into the family home. They violently beat the parents, killing the father and leaving the mother unconscious until 4 a.m. The assailants then fled with the child, after writing a ransom demand of 10 million ariary on a wall in exchange for his release. However, the family did not give in to the blackmail and immediately alerted the gendarmerie.
The in-depth investigation, opened on October 15, helped advance the inquiries and identify several suspects. Six people have already been arrested. Among them are reportedly relatives of the victim, including his brother, mother, sister, and his brother’s son. According to the investigators’ report, disputes related to inheritance sharing and family jealousy were the motives behind the crime. No ransom was paid. Four other people suspected of complicity are still being sought.
